Dr. Jeff Hicks
Jeff Hicks “El Jefe” has been instrumental in the planning, preparation and execution of Special Care dentistry patient services and on the job training for local Guatemalan providers.
Dr. Hicks has served in a variety of roles for the University of Texas Health Sciences Center San Antonio Dental School. He has been: predoctoral preclinical and clinical faculty, postdoctoral didactic and clinical faculty, Director of both the Advanced Education Program in General Dentistry and the Advanced Education in General Practice Residency program.
He also served as Chair of the Department of Hospital Dentistry at the Health Science Centers University Hospital. As Director of the Postdoctoral General Dentistry Division and of both the Advanced General Dentistry clinic at the Dental School and of the Hospital Dentistry Clinic at University Hospital, he managed clinics, budgets and a cadre of over 40 faculty and other personnel. Dr. Hicks lately has concentrated on obtaining federal training grants for the university with great success.
“El Jefe” has been a leading force behind starting and expanding the Special Care Dentistry volunteer weeks of service and on-the-job training of the local dental team which now services Special Care patients year-round with primary care.
